Law with Foundation Year - University of Derby

**BA (Hons) Law with Foundation Year** Interested in studying law at Derby but feel that you’re not quite ready to join an honours degree directly? Featuring a foundation year to build your skills and confidence, our BA (Hons) Law is the ideal solution, equipping you for careers in a wide range of legal and business settings. **Why choose this course?** You’ll be inspired, stretched and challenged on a course which helps you reach high professional standards and define your future career direction. BA (Hons) Law with Foundation Year is ideal if you have the ability and ambition to study with us but don’t feel quite ready to embark on an honours degree right now. It may be that you lack the formal entry requirements, are considering a change of career or want to build your knowledge, skills and confidence first. **Is this course for you?** By taking the foundation year as part of a four-year study programme, you’ll gain a vital introduction to the law and a chance to develop your academic study skills. After the foundation year you can continue with the BA (Hons) Law programme or transfer to our LLB (Hons) if you have the capacity to complete a qualifying law degree. **How you will learn** You will gain substantial practical experience of drafting, advocacy, interviewing, negotiation and problem-based research. We offer impressive study facilities, including a replica crown court and interview suites. **Opportunities and experiences** Our professional partnerships open doors for you to benefit from placements and internships, judicial shadowing and mentoring by established lawyers. Through our new Student Legal Advice Centre, you can gain rewarding practical experience by supporting the wider community and helping people who might otherwise find it hard to access justice. **Careers and employability** This course equips you with an impressive combination of skills which pave the way to a wide range of careers that require legal knowledge. This could include roles in criminal justice agencies, the Crown Prosecution Service, local government, and charitable and voluntary sector organisations. *Please note that the BA (Hons) Law is not a qualifying law degree and therefore does not exempt you from the academic stage of legal training should you want to become a solicitor or barrister. If you want to transfer to the LLB (Hons) after your Foundation Year, this will be subject to various conditions.
