Forensic Science with Psychology

Forensic Science at Derby is ranked number one for student experience, according to the Times and Sunday Times League Table, 2017. On this course, you will broaden your career scope on a highly practical forensics course where you can add psychological perspectives to the skills of the forensic scientist. You'll learn about key psychological theories and principles, crime scene investigations, fingerprint analysis, human tissue analysis, as well as aspects of criminal psychology. You'll be guided through the process of crime scene analysis and recovery, to presentation of evidence in the courtroom by our expert teaching team of psychologists and forensic scientists. Our practical course gives you the opportunity to put theory into practice in our excellent forensic facilities, such as our state-of-the-art Forensic Training Facility with seven domestic and commercial crime scenes, two crime scene cars, magistrates/crown courts, psychological laboratory and observation suite. We hold a Class-A drugs licence and firearms licence to provide a realistic forensics training environment for you. You’ll also have the opportunity to observe a post-mortem, apply for a year-long placement, and showcase findings from your studies at national conferences; an experience that will help you stand out in a highly competitive job market. This course gives you a compelling combination of skills which will look great on your CV - you could go on to work within the forensic science sector, the criminal justice system, local constabularies, insurance companies, law firms or private laboratories.
