Course snapshot Our foundation degree, accredited by the University of Birmingham, will give you the management and practical skills you need to make the most of business opportunities in sports management, both in the UK and overseas. Who’s the course for? You will be interested in management roles in sports tourism and marketing, community sports programmes and in health promotion. Why should I study the course? You will develop a broad range of skills including the analytical, communication and decision-making disciplines that are vital for success in sports organisations. Great. Tell me some more Sports management is an exciting sector with a wide variety of employment opportunities in leisure centre/facility management, sports events, sports development, national governing bodies, sports coaching, sports marketing, PE teaching and health and fitness management. You will study the operational and strategic issues in sport, specifically relating to operating within an international environment. You will participate in several residential visits both in the UK and overseas so you can examine real world examples of effective sports management practice. We give equal consideration to applicants who are in work and wish to apply to UCB. You must have a minimum of three years’ relevant work experience, demonstrating management or supervisory duties. As an undergraduate, you will have access to UCB’s £26 million study centre at McIntyre House in the historic Jewellery Quarter. What skills will I gain? You will get the chance to work on your own research project, which creates an opportunity to critically analyse a particular area or field of sports management that interests you. You will have work experience opportunities throughout your course in order to optimise your industry engagement. You will also be able to gain qualifications in first aid and modern languages. When you enrol, you automatically become a student member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). What about the future? You will be qualified to move into a wide variety of areas within the sports management sector. Graduates have also gone on to work in sports tourism and marketing, on community sports programmes and in health promotion.
