Graduates with broad experience and excellent skills are highly sought after in the sport and fitness industries. - **Who’s the course for?** This course, accredited by University College Birmingham, is for students who want to build a strong knowledge base in a variety of sporting areas: from the anatomy and physiology of sport, to sports coaching and industry development. You will be given the relevant skills and shown how to apply them practically within your field of interest. - **Why should I study the course?** You will be offered expert guidance and opportunities to investigate the various facets of the sport and fitness industries, tailoring each area to suit your interests and career aims. - **Great. Tell me some more** Sport and fitness encompasses professional, amateur and educational roles. Many areas of the thriving industry require similar base-knowledge in fields such as nutrition, anatomy and physiology. By building your knowledge, you will ensure you are well-placed to exploit opportunities in this dynamic employment market. You will have work experience opportunities throughout your course in order to optimise your industry engagement As an undergraduate, you will have access to UCB’s £26 million study centre at McIntyre House in the historic Jewellery Quarter. - **So what modules will I study?** Year 1: Healthy Lifestyle, Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Academic Skills, Sport in Society, Fitness Training, Coaching Principles. Year 2: Fitness Training 2, Sports Psychology, Industrial and Personal Development, Research for Sport, Sports Coaching. One option from: Enterprise Start-up Studies, Modern Languages (Lower Intermediate), Sports Nutrition, Voluntary Initiative, Health, Fitness and Wellbeing, Performance Analysis. Year 3: Sports Psychology 2, Applied Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Project. Two options from: Nutrition for Performance, Sports Coaching and the Development of Expertise, Sports Marketing, Work-based Learning of Sport. - **Do I need to buy any equipment?** For practical activities, a uniform is required at a cost of about £55. This consists of one polo shirt and track-pants. However, students may also choose to purchase additional items according to their requirements e.g. hoody, rain jacket, shorts etc. - **What skills will I gain?** You will get a strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, exercise, fitness and sports coaching and apply these skills in practical and relevant ways. You will gain industry experience and qualifications, such as personal training and coaching. You can continue to hone your skills whilst studying with us in our sports performance lab, fitness gyms and other sports facilities. You will also have the opportunity to gain further industry accredited qualifications throughout your studies, including *Level 2 Certificate Fitness Instructor (NCFE) in year 1, Level 3 Personal Trainer (NCFE) in year 2 and Level 2 Award in Coaching Weight Lifting (British Weight Lifting and 1st4Sport) in year 3. *Extra qualifications incur an additional fee (reduced). - **What about the future?** The course will give you the confidence and know-how to move into a wide range of areas in the exercise, health and wellness sector. Our graduates have gone on to work as health and fitness professionals, in health promotion and as fitness instructors and personal trainers. Career paths include: - Coaching - Sports development - Strength and conditioning - Armed forces or uniformed services - Teaching or lecturing (via a PGCE)
