- **Course snapshot** Qualified sports therapists are in high demand in the sports, health and leisure industries and our foundation degree, accredited by the University of Birmingham, will equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to work at the top level of the profession. - **Who’s the course for?** You will be fascinated in working with sports clubs, athletics teams and sports injury clinics, who are increasingly turning to therapists to help sportsmen and sportswomen train and compete safely, rehabilitate injured athletes and deal with the physical and emotional trauma of injury. Why should I study the course? You might be thinking about setting up your own sports therapy practice, treating injuries in sports injury clinics or working alongside professional athletes to improve their performance. - **Great. Tell me some more** The Sports Therapy course integrates academic learning and the development of practical sports therapy skills to an advanced level. On completion of the degree, graduates will be qualified to join the industry’s professional body The Society of Sports Therapists (SST). You will study the science of sports therapy through anatomy modules and receive practical training in the techniques of sports massage. You will get the chance to select from a range of optional modules and specialise in areas that particularly interest you, tailoring your studies to your career aspirations. As an undergraduate, you will have access to UCB’s £26 million study centre at McIntyre House in the historic Jewellery Quarter. - **So what modules will I study?** You will have the option of progressing onto the final year of the BSc (Hons) at the end of Year 2. Year 1: Academic Development, Introduction to Sports Injury Management, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Science for Sports Therapists, Soft Tissue Therapy, Musculoskeletal Anatomy. Year 2: Pathology of Sports Injuries, Research for Sports Therapists, Peripheral and Spinal Assessment, Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation 1, Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation 2. One option from: Sports Psychology, Creative Business Enterprise, Sports Nutrition, Sports Coaching, Athletic Movement Analysis. - **Do I need to buy any equipment?** For practical activities, a uniform is required at a cost of about £55. This consists of one polo shirt and track-pants. However, students may also choose to purchase additional items according to their requirements e.g. hoody, rain jacket, shorts etc. - **What skills will I gain?** You will examine the role of the sports therapist, learn about sports injuries and understand how to strengthen and condition muscles. You will have the opportunity to attend key sports events to assist in treating injuries and gain further practical experience whilst on work placement and treating clients in our sports injury clinics. You will get the chance to work on your own research project, giving you the opportunity to specialise in, and critically analyse, an area or field of sports therapy you feel passionate about. Our Human Performance Laboratory is used for undergraduate teaching, data collection for the research project and sports therapy consultancy. - **What about the future?** The course will give you the confidence and know-how to move into a wide range of areas in the sports therapy industry.
