- **Course snapshot** Our Health and Social Care degree is designed to meet the increasing demand for health and social care professionals in the UK and globally. This rapidly growing industry requires individuals with a wide range of knowledge and experience. This course offers students an opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of health and social care. - **Who’s the course for?** This course, accredited by University College Birmingham, is ideal if you are interested in rewarding careers working in offender management, guidance and counselling services, family support and the management of long-term conditions. You will also have the opportunity to study how to promote healthy living and emotional intelligence in practice. - **Why should I study the course?** This course is delivered by expert staff with vocational experience in a variety of health and social care settings. There will be opportunities to increase your employability through completion of specialised work placements in a wide range of settings. Today’s health and social care sector requires professionals who are flexible and open to new ways of delivering high standards of care – and we will ensure you fulfil the demands of employers and clients. - **Great. Tell me some more** Your first year will provide you with a good foundation so that you can choose how to tailor your studies in your second and third year. The University’s new Health Hub, a purpose-built facility, allows students to experience the full range of settings they are likely to encounter in practice. It includes: • A three-bedded ward area – allowing students to interact with simulation manikins in a “virtual” ward setting. • A clinical treatment area – a realistic environment to learn clinical skills such as patient assessment, administration of medication and wound care • A typical home area – allowing students to consider the challenges of delivering health and social care in the community • A 24-seat teaching area - **Do I need to buy any equipment?** Students enrolling onto this course will be subject to the above (this procedure will be initiated by UCB). However, all students will be required to pay £44 for a DBS check in advance of enrolment. - **What skills will I gain?** You will gain a fundamental understanding of the principles and practice of working in health and social care as well as focusing on work-based practice and enhancing your interpersonal and communication skills. You will gain substantial experience in a range of diverse placement areas which aim to help you link theory and practice. Your modules will be focused on a range of vocational areas that can be directly applied to working within the industry. - **What about the future?** The BSc (Hons) degree course will give you the confidence and knowledge to move into a wide range of areas in the health and social care sector. Successful completion of this course could lead to a career in drug and alcohol services, health promotion, offender management, guidance and counselling agencies and family support. In such a diverse sector, many of our graduates go on to become community liaison officers, work in hospices and various charities in a wide range of roles.
