In Literature, you will gain a thorough grounding in the canon and contemporary theory and the chance to explore an exciting variety of other topics, including gothic, science fiction, detective literature, children’s writing, women’s writing, postcolonial literature and fantasy. In Language, you will learn about the mechanics of English, its history, its function in society and in literature, and its psychology and biological foundations. We also offer a distinctive experience of working alongside academic critics, literary theorists and practising writers. This ensures that you’ll gain a breadth of insight into literature, language and your own academic writing. Our department is committed to excellence in teaching and research.
