Natural Hazard Management and Journalism

Our Natural Hazard Management (NHM) course presents you with opportunities to gain practical (field/laboratory) experience of hazard assessment in British and overseas settings, and to develop the ability to apply geospatial mapping technologies (e.g. Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Remote Sensing (RS)) to evaluate/manage risks posed by natural hazards. The overarching aim of the Journalism course is to implement an explicitly developmental approach to the teaching of students undertaking it. This means beginning with getting to grips with the underlying principles of journalism practice and theory, before gradually being given greater freedom as you progress to explore how to develop your own unique interests and talents in the context of theory and practice.
