Journalism and International Relations

The overarching aim of the Journalism course is to implement an explicitly developmental approach to the teaching of students undertaking it. This means beginning with getting to grips with the underlying principles of journalism practice and theory, before gradually being given greater freedom as you progress to explore how to develop your own unique interests and talents in the context of theory and practice. At its heart, International Relations, is a discussion - at the individual, state and international level - it is about power within a global context. Its breadth allows for the development of student-oriented specialisms. State and non-state actors are examined through theoretical and practical lenses. Issues concerning security, war, terrorism, humanitarian interventions, the environment, the economy and how governments communicate are key areas.
