Immunology

Immunology is the study of our defence systems against infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. You will study how our immune system adapts to destroy invading organisms or developing tumours. Despite being highly efficient our immune system can also act against us, and we will look at autoimmunity and the problems caused during organ transplantation. We will also look at the development of exciting new drugs based on antibodies or manipulation of the immune system – immunotherapy.
