During your Foundation Entry Year you will study alongside peers from related courses, whilst you gain a broad introduction to sports leadership. Examine sports from socio-cultural and historical perspectives, combined with the study of physical education, health and fitness, equipping you with a broad range of skills and knowledge that is built from an interdisciplinary approach. You’ll also have the chance to study optional modules in sports management, coaching and development, and will learn about major sporting issues and physical education in the UK and abroad. You’ll be taught by staff with extensive experience – including former teachers and personal trainers, as well as traditional academics. Most lecturers have worked in the real world and they are all currently research active and are passionate about embedding their latest research into the curriculum. Our aim is for you to become a valued and employable graduate with a promising future, and by providing opportunities for hands-on work experience, educational trips, internships and international study and travel, we’ll help you achieve that. This course offers an optional 48-week sandwich placement in industry. In addition, there are options for study exchanges in Europe and North America. You’ll get valuable opportunities to meet potential employers from a large number of sports organisations and learn about life in the sports industry. The course has been designed to thoroughly prepare you for a diverse range of career opportunities from performance enhancement, teaching and personal training to sports management, public services and health management. Some graduates have gone on to work in the commercial and retail sectors.
