The modern fire and rescue services look to recruit forward-thinking individuals who have the potential to succeed as managers and leaders - this course will give you a head start on other applicants. The combination of bespoke development and academic qualification has made the course particularly attractive to Fire and Rescue Services. Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Cumbria have placed students on the course and many others have supported students by offering them placements or work experience or help with research topics. The programme has many practical aspects including a four week operational fire-fighting course; time is spent within services carrying out community fire safety education to the public. Students are encouraged to seek summer placements within supporting fire and rescue services and every effort is made to assist in this important aspect of development and service integration. International opportunities include travel and work placement with ‘Operation Florian' which is a charitable organisation working to improve fire service infrastructures in countries where they are lacking. Recent deployments have been to Zimbabwe.
