The Euro crisis is determining the future course of the EU and trade is central to the Brexit debate. All these issues involve understanding the interconnectedness of international relations and economics and a graduate in these two disciplines will be highly valued by major employers. The course provides a rigorous and wide-ranging study of international relations, combined with a significant grounding in economics. It covers international relations theory, the history of the international system, foreign policy analysis, international organisations, war and conflict, and area studies (specific countries and regions). The economics modules examine decision-making in the context of a market economy, and the institutional supports for such an economy to operate effectively. The degree will equip students for a wide range of careers, including working in international organisations. Students will develop important skills of value to employers: the ability to analyse concepts, write well, assess published work, communicate (including making oral presentations), determine the validity of opposing points of view, and undertake independent research. You will be taught be experts in small groups. Your lecturers will also be your tutors; we don’t employ graduate teaching assistants. And you will benefit from the diverse cultural experiences of the other students, who are drawn from over 80 countries.
