Sociology is the study of society, culture and institutions and is one of the disciplines central to making sense of global and social change. Students are introduced to a broad range of sociological theories, research and applications, and develop a progressively more complex understanding of key debates and critical thinking. There is a strong emphasis throughout on developing the skills necessary to understand and evaluate social theory. Students have the opportunity to complete a voluntary work placement in the local community and gain valuable professional experience. There is also the option to take part in the university's international exchange programme and study in Spain or Sweden for part of the degree.
