Civil with Environmental Engineering - University of Brighton

This accredited course provides you with a foundation in the principles of civil engineering, developing your knowledge of how to assess the environmental impact of projects and to design environmentally friendly structures. You will develop core learning in areas including the design of structures and renewable technologies, environmental hydraulics, environmental impact assessment, water and health. You will also have the option to explore topics such as coastal environments and geographic information systems. You will put theory into practice through field trips and design projects working alongside students in related fields, such as environmental science and geology. This multidisciplinary approach to project work mirrors what you will experience in industry. You will learn with staff who are active in research and consultancy, with strong links to some of the UK’s most prestigious employers. You will have access to specialist facilities including a concrete lab, hydraulics lab, soils lab, geotechnical centrifuge, dynamics lab and computer suite. The option of a salaried placement year provides valuable work experience and you will have the opportunity to learn Building Information Modelling (BIM) to further enhance your CV. You also have the option to study abroad as part of the Erasmus programme. If you achieve the required standard in year 2, you can choose to progress directly to the third year of the Civil with Environmental Engineering MEng and study towards a masters-level qualification.
