Chemistry - University of Brighton

Our Chemistry BSc(Hons) course is structured around three subject areas: core chemistry, analytical chemistry and chemical skills, while also allowing you to complement your degree with studies in biochemistry or geochemistry. With a strong focus on practical skills, you will progress from learning about fundamental concepts in chemistry to the latest scientific advances, discovering how the subject can be used to solve issues of global importance. You will gain hands-on experience in our specialist laboratories with chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, electroanalysis, and many other research techniques. The optional placement year gives you a real opportunity to develop your skills as a chemist and gain valuable work experience. This course is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry as partially satisfying the academic requirements for the award of chartered chemist. If you achieve the required standard in year 2, you can choose to progress directly to the third year of the Chemistry MChem and study towards a masters-level qualification.
