Are you concerned about violence, inequality and injustice in the world today? Are you wondering how we might respond to ecological crisis? Are you curious about the potential of peaceful alternatives? Would you like to develop your capacity to engage with conflict intelligently and responsibly? The BA in Applied Peace and Conflict Studies is designed to support you in becoming a skilful practitioner who can critically analyse the structures and practices that foster peaceful or unpeaceful relationships, develop ethical and constructive responses to particular conflict situations, and reflect on your own practice with a view to continuous professional development. An exciting feature of this programme is its applied dimension. Throughout your studies, you will have opportunities to develop research and analytical skills, real-life problem-solving capacities, and the personal and interpersonal skills needed for ethical and effective peace work. The programme is informed and enriched both by the expertise of academic staff and by the experience of practitioners in our field (including our many alumni doing relevant work), and you will be able to access and learn from both. To encourage this, the programme cultivates the ethos of an engaging and inclusive learning community that is responsive to different learning styles and allows each participant to develop to their full potential. The programme has been designed with reference to relevant professional standard frameworks in the fields of peace, conflict and development. By the end of your studies, you will have developed a portfolio of work that demonstrates your competencies. You will thus be well-placed to access a range of career opportunities, both in further academic research and in peace and conflict work at local, national and international levels.
