Health Care Studies

The course will enable you to achieve the intellectual, personal and practical skills necessary to pursue a career in the health care industries or enhance your current career development. Delivered by The Skills Company (Economic Solutions) in Manchester, you will gain an understanding of the principles of care and the legal and ethical issues associated with social policy and working in the health care industries. You will be introduced to psychology theories and concepts and will study cases where you will apply your learning. Anatomy and physiological considerations will be explored and a dedicated work placement module evidences a significant period of industry practice experience, which is valued by employers and industry professionals. You will be encouraged to apply a flexible, open minded and analytical approach to all aspects of the issues presented during the course of your studies. A variety of teaching methods is used during the programme to accommodate different learning styles and provide you with a rich and varied learning experience. The aim throughout the programme will be to develop a wide range of knowledge and skills which will enhance learning and future academic and competency development. Theory will be delivered at the University or out in the practice area on a dedicated study day. A combination of lectures, group based activities and seminars will be used, there will also be some practical and skills session. Learning is centered on the workplace environment with an emphasis on learning at work and learning through work. The theory–practice link is of great importance and will be made through the promotion of reflection on practice and drawing from practice experiences throughout the programme of study. You will have considerable one to one support from both tutors and Work-Based Education Facilitators, who will work alongside you in both the work-place and the University. Distance and on-line resources will also be used to complement the learning process, which is once again associated with a positive learning environment and flexibility to meet your needs.
