The University of Bolton was one of the first in the country to offer games-based courses and our experience covers games programming, games design and games art. We have over 11 years of experience in the delivery of dedicated games courses. We have a large number of staff who are passionate about games and dedicated to teaching the subject. Our team includes a balance of academic and industrial experience. Members of the team have worked in AAA studios, have run their own studios, have authored books and are conducting international-facing research. The foundation year of the BSc (Hons) Games Design with Foundation will introduce you to many aspects of computing, including programming, computer networks and computers in society (covering cultural, ethical, social and security issues). As well as learning about the fundamentals of research, you will develop a logical approach to problem solving and gain project management, team work and communications skills during the project module. After the foundation year the course covers games analysis and games design, platforms and technologies, content production, testing, usability and playability, sales and marketing, and games production. It provides a broad study of games, with an emphasis on innovation, design and creativity rather than the programming and technical aspects.
