Fine Art

The BA (Hons) Fine Art course is delivered by a team of successful practicing artists, and will give you the opportunity to explore and develop your own creativity, whilst establishing the foundation of your professional practice as a working artist. You will enhance your technical skills in the traditional fine arts media of painting, drawing (including life drawing), printmaking and sculpture. The course is multidisciplinary, ensuring you will also have plenty of opportunity to learn about and practice a broad range of new media – experimentation and exploration are encouraged. Throughout your studies the emphasis is on expanding your critical understanding of fine art and supporting the growth of your ideas, thinking and philosophy on your own creativity. Also central to your studies is building your knowledge of the business and marketing aspects of the art world. The department uses a studio system and you will be expected to manage your time, your workload and show increasing levels of responsibility and personal management as the course progresses. You will be expected to play an active role in the department’s exhibition committee and work with your fellow students on all aspects of your final, public exhibition at the end of your final year.
