Drawing

BA (Hons) Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts teaches drawing as an extension of thinking. Students develop their understanding of the subject in relation to wider issues in art, and are encouraged to look at how drawing is used in other disciplines such as architecture, choreography, mathematics and science. **What can you expect?** • To explore drawing as an end in itself, as well as a means for exploring other modes of art practice like film, installation, performance and sculpture. • To explore how drawing is used in disciplines outside art such as medicine, architecture and dance choreography. • To initiate and organise external projects, where students learn vital professional skills and develop a better understanding of context for your work. • Cross-course crits and tutorials, with second year activities and exhibitions giving Drawing students the chance to discuss their work with their Fine Art programme peers studying Painting, Photography and Sculpture. • To test how their artworks are installed, received and understood by participating in an external exhibition with students from across our BA (Hons) Fine Art programme. • A Fine Art lecture series open to all Camberwell undergraduate students studying Drawing, Painting, Photography and Sculpture. • Taught studio sessions that compliment students’ work on; drawing and the body - an exploration of the body as object and subject on the page and in real space, life drawing, linear perspective and orthographic projection drawing, and using measurement to translate objects and spaces into lines. **Structure** By retaining single subject degrees in Fine Art at undergraduate level, Camberwell offers students the chance to study in depth Painting, Sculpture, Photography and Drawing, while still allowing students to access cross-course teaching and facilities, as well as working with their peers in other Fine Art areas. All undergraduate Fine Art students at Camberwell attend cross-course crits and tutorials throughout their course, even though they are primarily based in their own subject areas. **Work experience and opportunities** BA (Hons) Drawing students have had placements with artists including Susan Collis, Saskia Olde Wolbers, Aleksandra Mir, Susan Stockwell, Berlinde de Bruyckere and furniture design and manufacturing company OPM. Students have also participated or performed in artists Joan Jonas and Doug Fishbone’s work and collaborated with galleries including The Courtauld and LUPA. You will have the chance to exhibit your work in external exhibitions. Previous spaces have included Cafe Gallery Projects and Dilston Grove, The Departure Foundation, Hotel Elephant, The Old Operating Theatre and Copeland Gallery. You will have the opportunity in your second year of an exchange with an international art school.
