Sociology is concerned with developing theories and concepts to explain the origins and nature of the contemporary social world and seeks to justify such theories through systematically collected evidence. A central aim is to provide students with explanatory frameworks relevant to both the wider society in which they will live and the employment settings in which they will work. Politics is a core discipline in the social sciences; included in the study of politics are key themes, issues and concepts that are complimentary to the study of sociology. The modules offered to students on the Sociology with Politics pathway include 'The Foundations of Political Thought', 'Politics in Europe', 'British Politics and Policy', and 'The Politics of Deeply Divided Societies'.
