Forensic Biology with Professional Experience

Summary: Forensic biologists must be able to search scenes and evidential items meticulously to identify any body fluids present, collect and examine hairs and textile fibres, complete DNA analysis and understand other specialist forensic disciplines such as entomology, anthropology and forensic pathology. Course details: A degree in forensic biology equips you with these recovery and analytical skills, as well as the understanding required to interpret results in the context of serious criminal investigations. You also develop an advanced understanding of molecular biology, immunology, physiology and microbiology – areas of biology which are key for a graduate scientist.Graduates are ideally suited to work in biological professions - in particular forensic biology, within forensic science laboratories, and pathology, hospital and analytical laboratories.Integral to our forensic biology degree is the chance to develop practical skills through simulated casework examinations carried out in our extensive laboratories. After the course: Due to the range of knowledge and skills you acquire through the degree, graduates are ideally suited to work in biological professions, in particular forensic biology. This could be within forensic science laboratories or alternatively, pathology, hospital and analytical laboratories. Recent graduates have obtained jobs at Cellmark Forensic Services, LGC Forensics and Complement Genomics as forensic and DNA analysts. Other positions have been obtained at Merck, Sharp & Dohme, Fujifiolm Diosynth and on a range of MSc courses throughout the country.
