Summary: This course provides an in-depth knowledge of forensic science and how scientific methods are applied to crime investigation. Course details: It is particularly useful if you are seeking a forensic science degree with a substantial crime scene and investigative element to an advanced level or if you’re interested in a leadership or research position. Throughout the course you benefit from our links with practitioners and organisations working in the field. In addition, key members of staff are former forensic scientists or crime scene scientists with considerable operational experience and research interests aligned to current issues in forensic practice. Expect to carry out analytical and practical work in the University's on-campus specialist analytical laboratories, a forensic recovery laboratory, DNA analysis facilities and crime scene house laboratory fully equipped with CCTV. As part of specialist modules at Level 7 you carry out detailed analysis of key operational and research topics including forensic anthropology, analytical techniques and interpreting complex investigations. During the third and fourth year of the degree you complete a substantial research project. In addition to developing technical, analytical and organisational skills essential for a science career, this course also offers you with opportunities to develop management and leadership skills in preparation for a wide range of science and investigative careers in the public and private sector. After the course: Possible careers include crime and forensic investigation, forensic science, analytical science, either in industry or with a forensic science provider, forensic anthropology, pharmaceuticals, teaching, research science and any other job requiring scientific and investigative skills. Career prospects for MSci graduates are expected to be excellent, backed by a track record of excellent employability statistics from our associated BSc programmes. For instance, 100% of BSc (Hons) Forensic Biology respondents to the survey and 90% of BSc (Hons) Forensic Science respondents to the survey were in work or further study within six months from completing their studies (Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey (2013-14).
