Summary: This integrated foundation year degree programme prepares you for degree-level study in a range of disciplines across the creative arts and design. Course details: With a focus on creative practice, critical thinking, academic research, and communication skills, you build the knowledge and confidence to progress to Level 4 undergraduate study. You study a variety of modules that focus on the skills, techniques, themes, and approaches common to the art and design disciplines. Our project-led approach to learning and assessment helps you to pursue your own interests and focus your future study plans. The programme covers a wide range of art and design disciplines, with opportunities to explore everything from bookbinding to digital media, by way of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, graphics, and design. You have access to visiting artists and facilities at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (mima), part of the University and one of the country’s foremost galleries. After the course: When you successfully complete the foundation year, you can progress to the first year of the degree. At least one two-week work placement is required between your second and third years. Expected career routes for students successfully completing the degree include self publishing, graphic novel publishing, advertising, marketing, public relations, journalism, brand management, publishing and graphic design.
