TESOL and English Language

If you are interested in exploring how English and other languages are most effectively learnt and taught all over the world then this is the degree for you. Our TESOL and English Language degree programme offers you the opportunity to: • Develop in the first year a command of the basic methods, principles and vocabulary for describing, analysing and interpreting language. • Have the option of taking the internationally recognised Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), a professional qualification for teachers of English as a foreign language. Places are limited, subject to academic progression and you will have to undertake an interview process similar to PGCE interview. The typical cost is £1430 but you only have to pay the exam fee, currently £140. Please note costs are subject to change. • Undertake more independent and specialised work in your final year. 96% of our graduates are employed within six months of graduating according to the latest DLHE 2015 figures. Our Employability Officer supports our students with information and advice which is backed up by the University’s Careers Service and Work Placement Team. All students have access to events, workshops and employer talks, including an annual conference for students in June to support final year students with the transition into the world of work. With this degree programme you have the option to study abroad for a semester as part of your degree. You can either choose to go East and study in Hong Kong, China or Singapore or West and study in North America or Canada. This Semester Abroad opportunity costs no additional tuition fees; this means that you have the chance to study at an overseas institution without having to pay any further fee on top of the tuition fee you are already paying. You will, however, have to pay for your flight costs, accommodation, living expenses and any additional expenditure. Set in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the breathtaking Gower Peninsula, the University's location is captivating. With 15,921 students and 2,510 staff, Swansea's multicultural campus community provides a global perspective and opportunities to gain skills that last a lifetime. We are proud of the variety and quality of the teaching that we offer to undergraduates and post graduates which is informed by our and research, much of it world-leading.
