The BSc Geography with a Year Abroad degree scheme allows students taking a Single Honours Geography scheme to study in a European University for one year (between Years Two and Three) under the Socrates-Erasmus student mobility programme currently sponsored by the European Union. The scheme is aimed at students who wish to maintain or develop their skills in an European language, whilst essentially studying for a single honours Geography scheme. You will be expected to take some modules in the language of your exchange institution in Years One and Two. Your third year will be spent studying Geography abroad at one of our partner institutions - currently Angers (France), Kiel (Germany), and Zaragoza (Spain). You will return to Swansea for your fourth, and final year of study; your degree is calculated on your performance in your second and fourth years, and you only have to pass the year abroad. We are actively seeking opportunities for an English-language year abroad option and these would be made available to current applicants/students once established. Fieldwork is an important part of our teaching on the BSc Geography course, including an overseas field course in year two as well as fieldwork closer to home in all years. Swansea have been successfully training Geography graduates since the 1930s. We are one of the most well established Geography departments in the UK and, with over 30 academic staff, we are amongst the largest. Our well established reputation is noted by our excellent ratings for teaching, student experience and research. We offer a lively, friendly and thriving environment in which to pursue a Geography degree. We offer numerous activities for work experience and internships and a dedicated programme of activities designed to enhance your employability.
