Environmental Engineering

Environmental Engineering at Swansea is recognised as one of the Top 200 departments in the world (Shanghai Global Rankings). With the world’s population set to reach nine billion in 2050, obtaining enough clean water, air, land and food becomes even more pressing. It is to environmental engineers that we turn for solutions. They optimise the use of natural resources, develop renewable energy sources and help make our environment sustainable for generations to come. This degree will train you for a wide range of rewarding careers in industry and public organisations, and the health, safety, and environmental sectors. It will also provide a foundation for you to aim for the prized Chartered Engineer status. You will develop skills in concepts of environmental chemical analysis and gain practical skills on a range of common analytical and sampling techniques of relevance to environmental engineers. You will complete a major project where you will design a process plant with a focus on its environment impact, giving you vital experience working on large-scale industry-relevant projects. You will have the opportunity to gain industrial insight through site visits to companies such as: Welsh Water; AstraZeneca; First Milk and Tata Steel. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a process and environmental pilot plant laboratory where you will conduct experiments including: analysis of soil cation exchange capacity; analysis of water quality and organic pollution levels and acidification of water caused by carbon dioxide emissions. Environmental Engineering degrees at Swansea University are accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
