American Studies and Politics (with an Intercalary Year)

If you are interested in studying American History, Literature and Politics alongside studying Politics and you would like to spend a year abroad studying at an American University then this is the degree for you. Our American Studies and Politics degree programme offers you the opportunity to: • Cover aspects of American civilization, examining history, literature, politics, society and popular culture from the discovery and founding of the “New World” up to and including the ever-changing modern face of the most influential nation on the planet. • Study a 'Parliamentary Studies" module which includes sessions with members of parliament and the House of Lords, visits to the Palace of Westminster. Staff from the Houses of Parliament will deliver some classes and will be available to act as informal project advisors if you decide to take the follow on Dissertation in parliamentary studies module. Ranked 4th in the United Kingdom Swansea University is one of the leading centres for American Studies according to the Guardian Good University Guide 2017. American Studies is ranked 2nd in the United Kingdom for graduate prospects by the Independent Complete University Guide 2017 and 91% of our graduates are employed within six months of graduating according to the latest DLHE 2015 figures. Our Employability Officer supports our students with information and advice which is backed up by the University’s Careers Service and Work Placement Team. All students have access to events, workshops and employer talks, including an annual conference for students in June to support final year students with the transition into the world of work. This four-year programme includes a year abroad studying at an American University. There are no additional tuition fees; this means that you have the chance to study at an overseas institution without having to pay any further fee on top of the tuition fee you are already paying. However, you will have to pay for your flight costs, accommodation, living expenses and any additional expenditure. Set in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the breathtaking Gower Peninsula, the University's location is captivating.
