English and Philosophy

An exploration of literature, thought and language, and the varieties of ways they help us to understand the world. We bring together a wide range of modules in literature and language, to provide you with a stimulating programme in which you can direct the emphasis towards language, or literature (including options in Creative Writing), or achieve a balance of both. The programme is aimed at students who are receptive to ideas and eager to explore them at university level with tutors who are open, friendly and available to help. Have you ever wondered: What makes any act good or just? What it is to know, and what it is to believe? Whether it is possible to really put yourself in the position of someone else? Philosophers ask questions about what lies behind our everyday reality. The Philosophy Programme offers students the opportunity to explore such questions in a variety of traditions and periods.
