Television and Video Production (Top up)

Want to turn your existing qualifications or industry experience to a full degree? Solent’s one-year television and video production will enable you to add to your existing skills and pursue a career in television production. With a strong focus on employability and work experience, and the option to tailor towards your chosen area of specialisation, the course will prepare you for a career in the ever-growing media industry. The course focuses on the role of the producer, and you will learn how to organise and manage production teams, schedules, budgets and crew. You’ll also gain an understanding of the legal and ethical considerations surrounding productions, as well as the health and safety responsibilities and regulations. The changing nature of the television landscape is also considered, and you’ll explore the explosion in low-cost online content available via content sharing websites and social media; and simultaneously the growth in big budget cinematic productions available on Netflix and Prime. To gain a well-rounded appreciation for working in a multi-skilled television and media environment, students on Solent’s television and media technology courses are encouraged to work in collaboration with students across other disciplines to benefit from their expertise, such as costume and make-up for a period drama, special or visual effects work, or music composed for one of your films. The School places a strong employability focus on its courses and media technology students have been able to take part in exciting work experience opportunities. Our close relationship with Glastonbury Festival could allow you to apply for a range of production roles. Similarly, our links with Bestival, Camp Bestival and Boardmasters could also provide you with work experience opportunities throughout the summer. Our ever-growing network of production graduates are working in TV companies all over the country, both large and small, and our alumni regularly offer work experience opportunities to current students. Our graduates work on shows including The X Factor, Hunted, Escape to the Country, Holby City, Would I Lie to You, First Dates, Have I Got News for You, and Top Gear to name just a few.
