Television and Video Production (International only - September start)

Would you like to improve your English language and academic skills before progressing onto a full undergraduate degree programme? This course aims to fully prepare those who speak English as a second language for full-time study on one of our degree programmes. Part of a range of extended degree programmes for students whose first language is not English, this foundation year helps learners to reach a standard broadly equivalent to IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of IELTS 5.5 in each language skill component) before starting undergraduate studies. Solent University is proud to offer students a supportive learning environment. Face to face academic support is complemented by 24/7 access to our virtual learning environment. Students also benefit from access to our dedicated language centre, which offers a range of interactive resources designed to aid second language study. Thinking of studying for a degree here in the UK? This foundation year will help you transition into academic life as smoothly as possible, improving your language, research and communication skills as you begin to learn about your chosen subject area. Successful completion of the International foundation year will provide a pathway to the Television and Video Production degree. Our accredited television production degrees will prepare you for an exciting professional career in the global media industry. With a strong focus on gaining hands-on experience and access to cutting-edge facilities you’ll research, shoot and edit using the latest professional broadcast equipment, while gaining the essential production experience to launch your media career. Solent’s multi-million-pound media academy is a hub for creative students and boasts a comprehensive range of modern film and television production equipment, ranging from high-definition video cameras to DSLR full-frame cameras with a wide range of top-quality lenses and lighting kits. The University is also investing in 4K technology, which will enable students to enjoy professional-quality equipment. Students on the television and video production degree can also enjoy free access to three high-definition TV studios, the largest of which seats an audience of 200 people and can run up to ten cameras. Those who want to hone their editing skills will find over 70 Mac workstations, all linked by a state-of-the-art fibre optic network. All machines run industry software Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro as standard, while specialist editors will have access to Avid. To gain further practical experience students are encouraged to freelance at Solent Creatives, the University’s in-house creative agency, offering them unique opportunities to work on live client briefs to help develop their showreel.
