Southampton Solent’s industry-focused top-up degree will help students enhance business skills and knowledge, and develop a solid understanding of the workings and opportunities of the contemporary music industries. Through a combination of practical experience, theory and contextualisation, students build essential skills in music management, such as music business strategy and entrepreneurship, music law, copyright and finance, the mechanics of the music industries and the importance of digital music markets, helping them to enhance career potential within the industry including management companies, artist management, record companies, music publishing, media firms and live music agencies. Solent is proactive in bringing music to a wider audience. In previous years, students studying our range of music courses have been involved in planning, organising and promoting various music related events from gigs and club nights to the University’s own annual SMILEfest event. This has been through Solent Music, our in-house organisation which manages work experience opportunities and promotes music students’ practice-based work. In addition, you can work with our other in-house creative agencies which provide further opportunities to work with businesses on real-life projects and live briefs aimed at gaining valuable work experience and building a professional network.
