Would you like to improve your English language and academic skills before progressing onto a full undergraduate degree programme? This course aims to fully prepare those who speak English as a second language for full-time study on one of our degree programmes. Part of a range of extended degree programmes for students whose first language is not English, this foundation year helps learners to reach a standard broadly equivalent to IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of IELTS 5.5 in each language skill component) before starting undergraduate studies. Solent University is proud to offer students a supportive learning environment. Face to face academic support is complemented by 24/7 access to our virtual learning environment. Students also benefit from access to our dedicated language centre, which offers a range of interactive resources designed to aid second language study. Thinking of studying for a degree here in the UK? This foundation year will help you transition into academic life as smoothly as possible, improving your language, research and communication skills as you begin to learn about your chosen subject area. Successful completion of the International foundation year will provide a pathway to the LLB with placement. Southampton Solent University’s LLB has been designed to give graduates maximum flexibility when choosing their future progression. If you are hoping to become a solicitor or barrister, this course incorporates a Qualifying Law Degree and lays a professionally accredited foundation of knowledge – ideal preparation for the vocational training that you will be required to undertake after graduation. The course’s professional accreditations ensure that it is providing high standards of education and training for future barristers and solicitors. These accreditations also act as a seal of approval from the industry, showing employers that the course meets the standards set by the industry itself. As a qualifying law degree, this LLB programme also exempts students from the initial stages of solicitor or barrister training for both the Law Society of England and Wales, and the Bar Council. This can shorten future professional training requirements by as much as one year. The University’s moot courtroom enables students to practice their legal skills and gain courtroom experience. Southampton Solent University is a founding member of the Southampton City Law Network, which promotes the interests of local law students, teachers, lawyers, and other legal professionals. Connections made through this network have presented guest lectures for students, bringing the theory learnt in the classroom to life with real working examples.
