Have you got a passion for making great media content? Are you keen to develop your media production skills within a global context? With industry standard facilities, a highly experienced teaching team and an emphasis on international media practice, Southampton Solent’s international media production course can help you realise your career ambitions. Solent University’s international media production degree positions and frames the production of media content (whether audio, video or photography) within an international context. The course is deliberately broad in scope, allowing students the opportunity to explore a number of areas and develop a wide set of sought-after skills. The production elements of the course allow students to develop and hone their skills in video, photographic and audio production - particularly in the area of documentary. Students start by working in all three production mediums, with the opportunity to specialise in their final year. In addition to developing students’ technical skills, the curriculum explores media from an international and comparative perspective. Students discover the ways in which forces associated with globalisation are shaping and reshaping the global media landscape, as well as the way in which technological, social, political and cultural change is impacting on the notion of media work in different places and spaces. The course places great emphasis on employability and to test their skills, students are expected to work on a live client brief, which takes place abroad. Students must also undertake 100 hours of relevant work experience during their degree, and although they are not expected to secure placements outside of the UK, they are encouraged to think internationally in terms of the work placements they undertake.
