Would you like to improve your English language and academic skills before progressing onto a full undergraduate degree programme? This course aims to fully prepare those who speak English as a second language for full-time study on one of our degree programmes. Part of a range of extended degree programmes for students whose first language is not English, this foundation year helps learners to reach a standard broadly equivalent to IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of IELTS 5.5 in each language skill component) before starting undergraduate studies. Solent University is proud to offer students a supportive learning environment. Face to face academic support is complemented by 24/7 access to our virtual learning environment. Students also benefit from access to our dedicated language centre, which offers a range of interactive resources designed to aid second language study. Thinking of studying for a degree here in the UK? This foundation year will help you transition into academic life as smoothly as possible, improving your language, research and communication skills as you begin to learn about your chosen subject area. Successful completion of the International foundation year will provide a pathway to the International Business Management degree. Southampton Solent University’s international business management programme can help you to gain experience of different languages, cultures and business environments, turning you into a well-rounded and globally aware business graduate. Real industry insight is at the heart of Southampton Solent University’s international business management programme. The course team maintain strong relationships with industry professionals, which have previously lead to unique guest lectures, live assessment briefs, and work experience placements for business students. Students are also guided as they write a dissertation, carrying out in-depth research into a relevant business area. Students use the analytics skills learnt throughout the course to inform this research, and are encouraged to focus on an area that they think they might like to work in after graduation. In the second year, students are encouraged to spend all or half the academic year on study placement with one of our partner institutions in Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden or the Netherlands, learning business and language-related subjects. You’ll usually be taught in English, but students with good enough languages skills may find it helpful to study in the local language. Think your business idea could be the next big thing? Southampton Solent’s enterprise centre is dedicated to helping student entrepreneurs achieve success. They have previously provided support in the form of funding, office space, mentoring and guidance.
