The foundation year is ideal for those who are looking at an alternative route into higher education, or who wish to update or broaden their knowledge before progressing onto a full undergraduate degree. The course aims to help students develop a strong foundation of business knowledge, alongside academic and transferable skills to ensure they get the most out of their degree-level studies. Want to build your business knowledge to progress on to a full degree at Solent? The Business Foundation Year will help you build your academic skills, providing you with a platform to pursue a business-related undergraduate degree. Successful completion of the Business Foundation Year will provide a pathway to BSc (Hons) Business Economics. Southampton Solent University’s business economics programme teaches students to see the world from an economist’s perspective, improving understanding of the business environment and sharpening decision-making in business settings. Throughout the degree, students will study specialised economics and finance content blended with more general business related studies. This ensures that students graduate with a range of sought after business and marketing skills. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their own research. Many students use this as an opportunity to specialise their knowledge in one particular area, and some have even used their research to springboard a career after graduation. Selected students are able to pursue additional qualifications during their studies. These include the PRINCE2 project management qualification, as well as industry approved qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Communication Advertising and Marketing Foundation (CAM). These qualifications can give jobseekers a real advantage, demonstrating to employers that the candidate is educated to a standard put in place by the industry itself.
