Business Economics

Think you’d like to pursue a career in economics and finance? Southampton Solent University’s innovative business economics degree examines the underlying factors that affect business performance, behaviour and profitability; paying particular attention to how businesses can address everyday problems by adjusting finance strategies. You’ll also learn business, management and marketing skills that are suitable for use in any industry. Southampton Solent University’s business economics programme teaches students to see the world from an economist’s perspective, improving understanding of the business environment and sharpening decision-making in business settings. Throughout the degree, students will study specialised economics and finance content blended with more general business related studies. This ensures that students graduate with a range of sought after business and marketing skills. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their own research. Many students use this as an opportunity to specialise their knowledge in one particular area, and some have even used their research to springboard a career after graduation. Selected students are able to pursue additional qualifications during their studies. These include the PRINCE2 project management qualification, as well as industry approved qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Communication Advertising and Marketing Foundation (CAM). These qualifications can give jobseekers a real advantage, demonstrating to employers that the candidate is educated to a standard put in place by the industry itself.
