Audio Engineering with International Foundation Year (September start)

Would you like to improve your English language and academic skills before progressing onto a full undergraduate degree programme? This course aims to fully prepare those who speak English as a second language for full-time study on one of Southampton Solent University’s specialist degree programmes. Part of a range of extended degree programmes for students whose first language is not English, this foundation year helps learners to reach a standard broadly equivalent to IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of IELTS 5.5 in each language skill component) before starting undergraduate studies. Using our multimedia facilities and language centre, students will have the chance to tailor their English language studies to suit the subject they will later study at degree level. Solent University is proud to offer students a supportive learning environment. Face to face academic support is complemented by 24/7 access to our virtual learning environment. Students also benefit from access to our dedicated language centre, which offers a range of interactive resources designed to aid second language study. This foundation year will help you transition into academic life as smoothly as possible, improving your language, research and communication skills as you begin to learn about your chosen subject area. Successful completion of the International Foundation Year will provide a pathway to BSc (Hons) Audio Engineering degree. If you’re fascinated by the mechanics of recording, mixing and reproducing sound, whether it be for films, music or video games, Southampton Solent University’s audio engineering degree programme will help you gain the fundamental technical expertise and practical knowledge sought after by employers in the industry. Southampton Solent’s audio engineering degree combines a high level of technical expertise at systems level, operational skills in a variety of audio production environments, and a practical knowledge of the media industries’ working practices. Students study the underlying audio signal chain from acquisition to propagation, and across a wide variety of platforms. Flexible options within the degree programme allow students to focus their studies on particular areas of interest for their career path, including film sound, game audio, radio and television broadcasting, and systems integration. The course is continually revised to keep up with industry developments and also draws on the experience and input of Solent graduates working at the cutting edge. The course has a long history of successful graduate employment, and recent graduates have found positions at leading organisations, such as Bloomberg, Pinewood, Shepperton and Teddington Studios, Visions, SiS, F1, ITV and the BBC.
