Directed by advertising professionals, you’ll learn to create dynamic, engaging advertising campaigns; from idea generation and strategy through to integrated marketing and copywriting, you’ll get to grips with every aspect of the creative process. Some advertising students at Southampton Solent get their first taste of the industry by freelancing at Solent Creatives, an on-campus advertising and marketing agency that specialises in connecting students with businesses that need creative help. This offers students the opportunity to gain work experience, create additional work for their portfolios and make industry contacts. Students are also encouraged to take on work experience throughout their studies. Students have previously secured placements at Saatchi & Saatchi, McCann Erickson, EHS 4D, Chemistry Communications, B&Q, Channel 4 (Jersey) and Palmer Hargreaves. In previous years, advertising lectures have been supplemented by a schedule of industry guest speakers. These speakers delivered talks on a range of academic topics and offered an insights into agency, in-house and freelance careers. Advertising students are also offered free access to a fully equipped IT centre. Both Windows and Mac computers are available, featuring video, audio and graphic design software. Students also enjoy free access to a range of photographic equipment.
