Marketing with Sport

Do you have a passion for sport? Are you interested in the way consumers behave and think? Solent’s innovative marketing with sport course will help you develop an in-depth knowledge of core marketing principles, as well as elements specific to sports marketing. This will leave you well-prepared to pursue a varied career in this fast-moving industry. You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of marketing theory coupled with practical application - all focused on engaging global sporting audiences. You’ll study key concepts of consumer behaviour and insight, marketing communications, and marketing strategy and planning. Sport specific units include sport broadcasting and media, sport sponsorship and events, and globalisation of sport business management. The course places a strong emphasis on employability skills and work related opportunities. This is through employer interaction, live client briefs and real-world projects. As a marketing with sport student you may get your first taste of the industry by freelancing at Solent Creatives, Solent’s on-campus creative agency. The course team has extensive links with the business community, marketing groups and industry associations. New links are established frequently, ensuring the degree is relevant to the modern marketing environment and current best practice in all aspects of sports marketing. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend guest lectures and will be encouraged to take part in networking opportunities, vital for a successful future career in the marketing profession. Students studying on the sports marketing programme also have the opportunity to study for professional qualifications alongside their degree. These include CIM, PRINCE2 and Google Analytics awards. Marketing with sport graduates can expect to seek work in a range of different roles, both inside and outside the sporting environment. Those who are seeking sport specific roles may find positions with professional teams and clubs, sports related brands, and specialised marketing agencies. Other areas of opportunity could also include sponsorship, press and PR, and market research. Graduates will also be able to apply their transferable marketing skills in a range of non-sporting businesses, either in-house or as an agency marketer. Students can study for professional qualifications from CIM, PRINCE2 and Google Analytics alongside their degrees (pending payment of external fees). Solent’s marketing with sport programme is the ideal degree for students who are fascinated by how consumers of sport products think, behave and spend. Applicants commonly aspire to careers in marketing management, market research, online promotion, trend forecasting, public relations or event management.
