Looking to venture into the exciting world of film and television? This one year media foundation programme will help you develop fundamental media skills and build a broad knowledge of television and film to leave you well prepared to progress onto a media or media-related degree at Southampton Solent University. Solent’s foundation year in media offers students a stimulating introduction to both the study of media and the production of media content. Students are encouraged to develop their creative and technical skills across a wide range of production mediums, such as digital video production, digital photography, audio and sound, and online, and will also discover how media shapes our lives, giving them a solid understanding of media and leaving them well-prepared to progress on to a full media or media-related degree at Solent. The course team’s strong industry links may provide students with the opportunity to listen to and learn from many leading industry guest speakers. A number of visiting fellows and professors from the worlds of film, television, media and music have previously guested, and past high-profile speakers have included film directors Sir Alan Parker and Hugh Hudson, and the R&B star, Craig David. Solent University offers students a supportive learning environment and teaching on the media foundation year is delivered by a dedicated course team. Face to face academic support is also available to students and is complemented by 24/7 access to the University’s virtual learning environment.
