This programme is designed for students who wish to study Korean culture across disciplines while working with the language at a suitable level, and require a shorter period of study without a year abroad in Korea. It would suit students with no prior knowledge of Korean as well as those with intermediate to advanced language skills. Compared to the four-year BA Korean degree, students have more flexibility to structure their course of study in a range of disciplines according to their individual interests and language entry level. This programme also offers a unique opportunity to study the musical traditions of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and their global diasporas. Students are taught the basic principles of ethnomusicology and survey a variety of Asian and African musics. In years 2 and 3 they are encouraged to focus on the music of specific regions and to consider cross-regional themes. Performance is a central component of the degree. Students have the opportunity to develop expertise in a great variety of musical performance traditions.
