Our unique World Philosophies degree offers you the chance to engage with a diverse range of philosophical traditions from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. This course will expand your knowledge and develop your critical understanding of philosophy in the context of a wider range of societies and historical eras than a traditional philosophy degree. You will investigate the origin, nature, methods, and limits of human knowledge; traditions of argumentation; as well as political and ethical systems of thought from a truly global perspective. This combined degree also explores many facets of English as a world language by placing both language and literature firmly in their historical and global contexts. You will study the history of the English language; its spread around the world; analyse how it has been adapted by different cultures; learn how Shakespeare's plays have influenced the world and study literatures written in English from around the globe.
