Course summary •Study on a longstanding course that is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. •Learn skills required for a range of professional real estate roles. •Extend your learning through field trips in key real estate marketplaces in the UK and Europe. You learn to become an accomplished and innovative commercial real estate surveyor. You will study topics including valuation, facilities and asset management, economics, finance and investment, sustainable planning and development, building technology, law as they all apply to the world of commercial real estate projects. The course satisfies the academic stage of the journey towards attaining Chartered Surveyor status. The course features a variety of learning activities that draw upon innovative classroom learning, authentic simulation activities and great placement opportunities. Here you are encouraged to develop solutions to 'real world' real estate challenges. Our aim is to prepare you for a rewarding career in commercial real estate practice in which your resilience, creativity and confidence will be key. To develop these key skills, and the technical knowledge to underpin them, you learn through •lectures and seminars •simulation activities •group projects •interviews •presentations •in-class workbook activities •online self-study quizzes •drop-ins •online resources •field trips •work placements Applied learning Live projects In your second year we start to focus your learning towards the world of work by encouraging you to explore the practical relationships between your various subjects studied, so that you can develop integrated advice as you would in practice. This integration of learning is achieved through simulation days in which you work on an authentic project, working as a small group to delivery timely, relevant advice for your 'client'. Work placements In your third year you have the chance to put your professional skills to work with a placement at one of the major national or regional offices of surveying practices, developers or asset managers. Your placement year usually contributes 200 days towards your professional experience requirement for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Assessment of Professional Competence. Field trips You test out your classroom learning in real buildings and real places by completing a number of field trips. These include local excursions, trips to UK cities such as Manchester, Liverpool or London, and a project-based or themed visit to a major European city. Networking opportunities The course has strong links with employers and other stakeholders in the real estate sector. Guest lectures by practitioners and networking events bring an opportunity to see how your learning relates to the world of real estate practice.
