Marketing with Foundation Year - Sheffield Hallam University

Course summary •Study your foundation year, then progress to a degree with industry accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). •Benefit from a student-focussed approach to learning. •Learn through critical thinking, problem solving and traditional methods. Develop an expert knowledge of applied marketing concepts and gain practical experience in the workplace. You gain the skills and experience you need to develop an in-depth understanding of the principles and techniques of marketing and the ability to apply marketing knowledge to a range of business problems. Sheffield Hallam is one of the few universities in the country that has direct links with the CIM, allowing you access to their master classes. How you learn The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BA (Hons) Marketing course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree. The approaches to learning and teaching on the Marketing course vary between modules. You will experience, and engage with a variety of learning and teaching methods on the course, which develops your knowledge, skills, and expertise. You learn through: •lectures •seminars •problem solving exercises •case studies •self managed study •individual and group presentations In the foundation year, you'll study wider business topics, while specialising in your chosen subject area. You'll learn useful skills such as academic writing, work in diverse teams and learn to utilise a wide variety of data sources. In doing so, you'll fully prepare yourself for undergraduate study. Applied learning Work placements You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your third and fourth years. This is typically 48 weeks long and gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Due to our strong relationships with regional, national and international employers, we can help you to secure a great placement opportunity and support you while you are there. Previous students have gained placements at companies such as IBM, Adidas, Marks & Spencer and Disney. Live projects In the third year of the course, you undertake a comprehensive set of activities focussed on employability, and in particular placements to support you in a year in industry. Work-related learning involves exercises that simulate the workplace and are run as part of modules on the course. Networking opportunities We are one of the few universities in the UK to have a student chapter linked to the CIM. This is a student learning community that complements and enhances your academic studies and allows you to link up with local professionals. Another way to prepare for your career is to make the most of your automatic membership of the Sheffield Hallam Student Marketing Society, which runs regular events with local and national employers.
