**This course is open to international applicants only for the September 2018 intake** Learn how to create and deliver a range of tailored hospitality packages, from product launches to charity balls that exceed customer expectations. You develop the strategic and creative thinking, research and planning skills needed for organising events and recruiting and managing effective teams. But you also learn to combine these core skills with the fast thinking and flexibility required on event days. You study strategic management to gain an understanding of how you can lead hospitality organisations away from their current standing and towards their vision. You develop your general business acumen and problem solving skills through the business solutions module. This module requires students to work in small teams to develop a sustainable solution for a business issue faced by a real world hospitality organisation. In 2016, our students were actively engaged with several projects for the Massarella Catering Group – a leading organisation in retail catering. Through specific modules in conference and hospitality events management, students are able to turn the spotlight on the area of the hospitality industry which appeals to them personally to develop a critical and evaluative approach to the management of these areas from an international perspective. In 2016, our final year students are actively engaged in a case study to plan a real world international conference for the medical sector, considering contemporary international issues along the way to inform their choice of venue. In previous years, our students have undertaken field trips to Paris, Dublin and Edinburgh to support the planning process. Students also develop a theoretical understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation, recognising the need for these principles both within existing organisations and among new venture creations. Learners can also develop their entrepreneurial competencies and explore any self-employment aspirations through this module. The course also requires learners to undertake a research project - an opportunity for students to investigate an area of the industry of their choosing. **How you learn** Your learning involves taking part in lectures, seminars, workshops, and projects. You will be assessed using a variety of methods, ranging from more traditional exams and coursework, to the delivery of live hospitality events. **Learn from our experts** You are taught by lecturers with considerable international industry experience in a wide range of roles, including research and consultancy, training and development, food and beverage operations, hotel management, banqueting and conferencing. Our academic staff have managed events and banquets for distinguished guests such as politicians, heads of state and members of the royal family.
