• Examine the design, implementation and support of secure network systems. • Work in teams to design networks and network security. • Recognise the professional and ethical issues involved in designing and deploying IT systems. Gain the skills to set up and run a computer network, with a robust understanding of the hardware and software involved. You cover the practicalities of wireless technologies, LAN and WAN implementation and network security. One third of the year is devoted to an individual project in an aspect of IT networks. **How you learn** You specialise in the practical study of building network systems that support the needs of organisations. You will be exposed to a variety of teaching approaches including demonstrations of practical work and step-by-step network systems development. You learn through: • practical work • hands-on development work • Virtual Learning Environment • coursework • written papers • online and multiple-choice based test specialist projects • one-to-one supervision **Applied learning** **Live projects** One third of the year involves a substantial project or dissertation. You have a project supervisor who provides one-to-one supervision and support. You're able to define IT projects that pursue your personal interests and that develop your practical skills or knowledge. Some work is on projects suggested by employers. **Networking opportunities** Throughout the year there are a number of opportunities for you to be involved in career management events, career fairs and workshops, employer presentations and visits. The course includes the frequent involvement of employers and IT professionals. **Accreditation** This course is accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
