Your business interest will be established in the first semester through exploring theory and practice as you learn about business contexts, including the ethical and cultural aspects that have an impact. This will be developed further in semester two when you will explore the issues that influence business practice, as well as examining your own professional practice to propose solutions to business problems. You will build your academic skills throughout the year to give you confidence in independent and creative thinking. You will learn about academic writing, critical analysis, working in diverse teams and working with a variety of data sources. The course culminates with you planning and managing an enterprise project which will pull together all of your learning. This provides a capstone to the year that supports you in demonstrating your readiness to progress to your chosen degree. The Extended Degree in Business is an exciting and creative entry route to a Business degree if you do not yet meet the entry requirements for degree level study, you are not yet ready for degree level study, or you are returning to study and would like to spend time getting up to speed with the demands of learning before embarking on a degree. The course prepares you for entry to undergraduate courses delivered by Sheffield Business School, within the Department of Management, Service Sector and Finance, Accounting and Business Systems. You will experience a wide variety of learning opportunities as you progress through the course. These are designed to equip you to undertake the degree of your choice in Sheffield Business School. You will learn about the environment that a business operates in and the skills needed to be successful in this environment. You will do this through lectures, seminars, problem based activities, group and individual work that you undertake with the support of dedicated tutors. You will become more independent in your learning as the course progresses. In addition, you will be guided in each module via week by week content which is supported by the e-learning portal. This will provide you with directed learning materials and on-line reading lists. You will also undertake some IT based workshops. The majority of the learning involves encouraging your interest in business practice and developing academic skills. To achieve this you will receive face-to-face feedback regularly during your modules in order to prepare you for the completion of your assignments. This will be by via tasks set for you to undertake in the module seminars or in your independent study time. By completing these tasks, you will build your knowledge and techniques for the assessments.
