This course focuses on the skills necessary to manage an agricultural enterprise or farming business in the present economic climate. It combines periods of University-based teaching with work-based learning, experience being gained both in the lecture room and on the farm. It aims to equip you with the practical, financial and management skills necessary to manage a successful business despite fluctuating commodity prices. Students complete a 10 week compulsory work placement, usually during the summer holiday between the first and second year, to gain further training and experience in farm management. You’ll have the opportunity to gain relevant practical experience and qualifications through rural skills training within the areas of crops and pesticides, estate maintenance, forestry, machinery, vehicles, and health and safety, at the Rural Innovation Centre at Harnhill Manor Farm. You can enrol for courses leading to the award of Certificates of Competence. Upon successful completion of the foundation degree, students have the opportunity to progress onto an appropriate BSc Honours Top Up course at the RAU or other universities. For part-time study, please contact the Admissions Office for more information.
